Chestnut Munia
Lonchura atricapilla

The adult Chestnut Munia is a small finch of grasslands, marsh edges, rice fields, and open scrub across parts of South and Southeast Asia. It feeds chiefly on grass and grain seeds, balancing on stems and using its stout bill to husk them. When threatened near cover, it relies on quick flight, sudden fluttering, and sharp alarm calls rather than strength. Its rich chestnut body and dark head make it distinctive, and it is closely associated with seed-bearing wetland and agricultural habitats.
