Chinese Giant Salamander
Andrias davidianus
Adults occupy cold, rocky mountain rivers and large pools, spending most daylight hours hidden in underwater dens. They are nocturnal ambush predators that take fish, frogs, crustaceans, and other animals with a powerful bite. As the world's largest amphibian, this species can exceed a metre in length and communicates with distinctive barking calls.
