Field Vole
Microtus agrestis

Field voles inhabit rough grassland, heaths, field margins, and damp meadows with thick ground cover. They travel through surface runways and shallow burrows, feeding mainly on grasses, sedges, shoots, and seeds. Most activity occurs under the cover of vegetation, where they freeze or retreat underground when threatened. Their dense populations can rise and fall dramatically in multi-year cycles.
