Hammer-Tooth Coral
Fimbriaphyllia ancora

Hammer-tooth coral forms branching or wall-like colonies on sheltered Indo-Pacific reefs. Its fleshy, hammer-shaped tentacles extend to capture plankton and can sting nearby animals or competing corals. During daylight, symbiotic algae in its tissues provide much of its energy, giving the coral its often vivid coloration.
