Macleay's Spectre
Extatosoma tiaratum

Adult Macleay's spectres inhabit forests and woodland margins of eastern Australia, spending much of the day motionless among foliage. They feed on the leaves of eucalypts, acacias, and other suitable trees, usually becoming more active after dark. Their bark-like, spiny bodies and leaf-like limbs conceal them remarkably well; when threatened, they may raise their wings, curl the abdomen, or drop and feign death.
