Convict Cichlid
Amatitlania nigrofasciata
Adult convict cichlids inhabit warm freshwater rivers, lakes, ponds, and drainage channels, especially where rocks and cavities provide shelter. They are omnivores that graze algae and detritus while also snapping up aquatic insects, crustaceans, and small fish. During breeding, adults become notably territorial and defend a chosen nesting site with displays, ramming, and bites.
