Starry Moray
Echidna nebulosa

The starry moray lives among coral reefs and rocky crevices in tropical Indo-Pacific waters. Usually active at night, it waits with its head protruding from a shelter before lunging at fish and crustaceans. Its powerful jaws seize prey in close quarters, while its long body lets it retreat deep into narrow holes. Pale speckles scattered over its dark skin give this moray its starry appearance.
