Almond-scented Millipede
Harpaphe haydeniana

Adults inhabit damp conifer and mixed forests, sheltering under leaf litter, bark, and fallen logs. They are slow-moving decomposers that consume decaying plant matter and fungi. During dry conditions, they retreat into protected, moist spaces in the soil and litter. Its almond-like odor comes from cyanide-containing defensive chemicals released when threatened.
