Toad Spider
Nuctenea umbratica

The adult toad spider lives around tree trunks, fences, walls, and other rough surfaces in woodland, gardens, and parks. It is mainly nocturnal, resting in a crack or crevice by day before emerging to sit in a web after dark. Small insects are caught in the web and subdued with a venomous bite. Its mottled, flattened body resembles bark, helping it disappear against the surface where it rests.
