Suckermouth catfish
Hypostomus plecostomus
Adult suckermouth catfish live on river bottoms and in sluggish freshwater channels, often sheltering beneath wood or among rocks by day. They feed mainly by rasping algae and biofilm from hard surfaces, while also consuming detritus and other available organic matter. Their armored body and locking pectoral spines make an adult difficult for many predators to swallow.
