Oriental Pied Hornbill

Anthracoceros albirostris

Oriental Pied Hornbill

The adult Oriental Pied Hornbill inhabits lowland forest, mangroves, wooded farmland, and urban green spaces across much of South and Southeast Asia. It flies strongly between fruiting trees and feeds mainly on figs and other fruit, with insects, lizards, frogs, eggs, and small birds also taken. Its large bill is used to pluck, toss, and manipulate food, while the hollow casque adds to its distinctive profile. During breeding, the female seals herself inside a tree cavity and depends on food delivered through a narrow opening.
