Intermediate Egret
Ardea intermedia

An elegant white heron of freshwater wetlands, flooded fields, lake margins, and slow waterways across parts of Africa, Asia, and Australia. It hunts alone by standing still or walking slowly, then spearing or snatching fish, amphibians, crustaceans, and insects with a sudden neck strike. In the breeding season, adults grow fine ornamental plumes and display at colonial nesting sites. A notable fact is that it is intermediate in size between little and great egrets, which is the source of its common name.
