Ochetellus glaber Queen Ant
Ochetellus glaber (queen)

The queen begins life as a winged reproductive but usually sheds her wings after mating and remains deep within a sheltered nest in soil, timber, wall gaps, or other protected spaces. She is fed sugary liquids and small animal foods by workers rather than foraging outside herself. Her main behaviour is producing eggs that workers rear through the larval and pupal stages. A notable feature is her enlarged abdomen, adapted for sustained egg production within the colony.
