Hairy Carpenter Ant
Camponotus vagus

Hairy carpenter ants inhabit woodland edges, old trees, stumps, and spaces beneath bark, where they excavate nesting galleries in already-soft or damaged wood. Adults forage for sweet honeydew, nectar, and dead or small living insects. Their strong mandibles can seize food and defend the nest, while formic acid provides an additional chemical deterrent.
