Two-striped Grasshopper
Melanoplus bivittatus

The adult two-striped grasshopper inhabits prairies, roadsides, pastures, and agricultural fields across much of North America. It eats a wide range of grasses, weeds, and crop plants, using powerful hind legs to jump away from danger. Adults can make short flights and are recognized by the two pale stripes running along the back.
