Comma
Polygonia c-album
The adult comma butterfly lives in sunny woodland clearings, hedgerows, parks, and gardens. It drinks nectar, tree sap, and juices from fallen fruit, and may also visit damp ground for minerals. When its wings are closed, the ragged brown underside resembles a dead leaf and bears the small white comma-shaped mark that gives the species its name.
