Striped Spittlebug
Neophilaenus lineatus
The adult is a small froghopper of grasslands, meadows, heaths, and rough pasture, often found on grasses and sedges. It feeds on plant sap with piercing mouthparts and relies on sudden jumps to escape predators. Adults have functional wings and can make short flights, but their strongest defense is an explosive spring from their hind legs. The pale stripes along the body help break up its outline among dry stems.
