Mediterranean red bug
Scantius aegyptius

The adult Mediterranean red bug occupies dry, sunny grasslands, field edges, scrub, and gardens across the Mediterranean region. It feeds chiefly on seeds, particularly those of mallows, using its piercing beak to draw nutrients from plant material. Fully developed wings allow short flights between feeding sites, and its vivid red-and-black coloration makes it conspicuous to potential predators.
