Namaqua Dove
Oena capensis
The Namaqua Dove inhabits arid grassland, scrub, farmland, and lightly wooded savanna across much of sub-Saharan Africa. It spends much of its time walking on the ground and picking up tiny seeds, but launches into swift, direct flight when disturbed. This small dove is especially recognizable for its long, pointed tail and its ability to travel widely in search of water and seeding grasses.
