Siberian Flying Squirrel Kit
Pteromys volans (kit)
This young squirrel remains in a sheltered tree cavity or nest while it grows, usually attended by its mother. It nurses at first and gradually begins sampling soft plant food such as buds, seeds, and fungi. Kits climb cautiously along branches before they are confident enough to make long glides. Their large eyes are already adapted for the species' nocturnal activity.
