Painted Grasshopper
Poekilocerus pictus
The adult painted grasshopper inhabits open scrub, grassland, and agricultural edges across parts of South Asia. It feeds chiefly on toxic milkweed plants and can fly between patches when disturbed or seeking food. Bold red, yellow, and black markings advertise defensive chemicals sequestered from its diet.
