Common Opossum Joey
Didelphis marsupialis (joey)

This pouch-bound young is found wherever its mother forages through tropical forests, scrub, farms, and settlement edges. It nurses in the pouch at first, then rides on its mother's back while learning to climb and search for food. As it grows, it begins sampling insects, fruit, and other soft foods. Joeys are born exceptionally tiny and complete much of their development protected by the mother.
