Japanese macaque

Macaca fuscata

Japanese macaque

Japanese macaques inhabit forests and mountainous regions across much of Japan, including areas with severe winter snow. They forage for fruits, seeds, leaves, bark, fungi, and small animals, adapting their diet to the season. Adults are famously seen bathing in hot springs during cold weather, though this is a learned behaviour rather than a natural necessity.
