Brain Root Coral
Lobophyllia corymbosa

Brain root coral is a reef-building stony coral found on sheltered to moderately exposed tropical Indo-Pacific reefs. Its fleshy lobed polyps extend tentacles, particularly at night, to capture zooplankton and suspended organic particles. Stinging cells on the tentacles subdue tiny prey and help defend the colony from close competitors. Its ridged, brain-like skeleton provides a durable base beneath the soft living tissue.
