Yellow Bittern
Botaurus sinensis

A small heron of reedbeds, rice fields, ponds, and marshy edges across much of eastern and southern Asia. It hunts alone by stalking slowly or standing motionless before stabbing at fish, frogs, crustaceans, and aquatic insects. When alarmed, it often stretches upright with its bill pointed skyward, blending into vertical reed stems. Despite being a capable flier, its signature survival strategy is camouflage and ambush in dense wetland vegetation.
