Red-legged Crake
Rallina fasciata

The adult red-legged crake is a shy rail of wetlands, mangroves, rice fields, and swampy forest edges in Southeast Asia. It forages on the ground for insects, small aquatic animals, seeds, and other small prey, usually staying concealed in thick vegetation. Although capable of flight, it more often slips away through cover, and its bright red legs contrast with its otherwise cryptic, banded body.
