Spotted Tussock Moth Caterpillar
Lophocampa maculata (caterpillar)
This hairy caterpillar lives on deciduous trees and shrubs in woodland edges, gardens, and forests across much of North America. It feeds on leaves from plants such as willow, poplar, birch, and maple, usually resting along twigs or foliage between feeding bouts. Its long pale hairs and contrasting dark markings make it conspicuous, while the bristles can irritate animals that try to eat it.
