American White Pelican
Pelecanus erythrorhynchos

American White Pelicans breed on inland lakes and marshes, then migrate to warmer freshwater and coastal waters. They feed mainly on fish, using their enormous expandable throat pouch to scoop prey near the surface. Unlike brown pelicans, they do not normally plunge-dive from great heights. Their broad wings allow them to soar efficiently in long migratory flocks.
