Golden Orb Weaver
Nephila pilipes

Adult golden orb weavers live in forests, mangroves, gardens, and edges of human settlements across tropical Asia and Australasia. Large females build strong golden-tinted orb webs that intercept flying insects, while much smaller males often linger near the edge of a female’s web. Prey is subdued with silk wrapping and venomous bites before being consumed. The silk is famous for its golden sheen and impressive strength compared with many other spider silks.
