Io Moth
Automeris io

Adult Io moths occur in deciduous forests, woodland margins, parks, and gardens across much of eastern North America. They fly mainly at night, taking nectar from flowers when available, while males use their large feathery antennae to locate females. When threatened, the moth opens its wings to reveal large eyespots that can startle a potential predator.
