Chinese Algae-eater Fingerling
Gyrinocheilus aymonieri (fingerling)

Fingerlings occupy shallow, flowing freshwater habitats with smooth rocks and submerged wood. They graze continually on algae and microbial films, using a developing sucker-like mouth to stay attached in moving water. At this stage they are more mobile than larvae but still rely on cover along the streambed. Young fish may defend productive feeding surfaces from other bottom-dwellers.
