Conehead Mantis
Empusa pennata

The adult conehead mantis inhabits warm, dry scrubland, grassland, and gardens around the Mediterranean. It waits in vegetation for flying insects and other small prey, seizing them with powerful spined forelegs. Adults have fully developed wings and can fly, while their leaflike body and pointed head crest maintain their remarkable plant mimicry.
