American Flamingo
Phoenicopterus ruber

American flamingos live in warm, shallow coastal wetlands, salt flats, lagoons, and estuaries across the Caribbean region. They sweep their specialized bills upside down through water and mud to filter algae, brine shrimp, and other small invertebrates. Their famous pink plumage comes from carotenoid pigments in their food, and adults can travel long distances in flight between feeding sites.
