Oriental Giant Water Bug
Kirkaldyia deyrollei

The adult Oriental giant water bug inhabits vegetated ponds, rice paddies, marshes, and other quiet freshwater habitats. It is an ambush predator that seizes fish, amphibians, and aquatic invertebrates with powerful front legs and pierces them with its beak. Adults can fly between water bodies, often appearing around lights at night. Males guard egg masses laid above the water, keeping them moist until they hatch.
