Eastern Rhinoceros Beetle
Xyloryctes jamaicensis

Adult eastern rhinoceros beetles inhabit forests and woodland edges where rotting logs and rich organic matter are available. They are mainly nocturnal, feeding on decaying plant material and sometimes sap or soft fruit. Males bear a prominent horn used in pushing contests with rival males, while the sturdy adults can fly to new feeding and breeding sites.
