Eastern Toe-Biter
Belostoma lutarium
The adult Eastern Toe-Biter inhabits still or sluggish freshwater ponds, wetlands, and vegetated stream margins. It is an ambush predator that captures insects, snails, tadpoles, and small fish with powerful front legs and a piercing beak. Adults can fly between water bodies, and males carry the eggs on their backs until they hatch.
