Red Underwing
Catocala nupta

The adult red underwing is a nocturnal moth found in woodlands, parks, gardens, and riverside tree cover. It rests flat against tree bark during the day and flies after dusk, sometimes visiting sap runs or fallen fruit. When disturbed, it can flash its vivid red hindwings, startling a predator before disappearing into flight.
