Holly Blue Caterpillar
Celastrina argiolus (larva)
This small, slug-like caterpillar lives on holly flower buds in spring and on ivy buds and berries in later broods, usually in hedgerows, woodland edges, parks, and gardens. It feeds quietly among its host plant's developing flowers and fruits, where its green body helps it blend into the foliage. Attended by ants in some circumstances, it produces secretions that may reduce the risk of attack.
