Indian Hare
Lepus nigricollis

The adult Indian hare lives in open scrub, grassland, farmland edges, and dry woodland across much of the Indian subcontinent. It is mostly crepuscular or nocturnal, feeding on grasses, herbs, crops, bark, and fallen plant material. When threatened it freezes first, then escapes with fast bounding runs and sharp zigzags. Its black-naped markings and long ears help distinguish it from many other hares in its range.
