Small Indian Mongoose
Urva javanica

The Small Indian Mongoose lives in grassland, scrub, farmland edges, and other open habitats where cover and prey are both available. It is a quick, alert carnivore that hunts insects, lizards, frogs, birds, eggs, rodents, and sometimes snakes. In conflict it relies on darting movements, sharp bites, clawing, and threat displays rather than brute force. Notably, it has been introduced to many islands for pest control and has become invasive in several places because it preys on native wildlife.
