Atlantic mud crab
Panopeus herbstii

Atlantic mud crabs inhabit salt marshes, oyster reefs, mangroves, and other protected coastal bottoms. They are opportunistic predators and scavengers, crushing small mollusks, worms, and other invertebrates with strong claws. Their broad, hard carapace provides protection while they shelter in mud, rubble, or shell-filled crevices.
