Lappet Moth

Phyllodesma americana

Lappet Moth

Adult lappet moths inhabit deciduous woods and nearby shrubby edges, becoming active after dusk. They fly with broad, soft wings and spend the day resting against bark or among dry leaves, where their muted pattern provides concealment. Adults generally do not feed, instead relying on energy stored during their caterpillar stage. Males use their strongly feathery antennae to detect females' scent signals.
