Plaintive Cuckoo
Cacomantis merulinus

An adult plaintive cuckoo is a slim, agile bird of gardens, scrub, mangroves, plantations, and open woodland across South and Southeast Asia. It feeds mainly on insects, especially caterpillars, picking prey from foliage and making quick flights between perches. Males are well known for their repeated plaintive whistled calls from exposed perches during the breeding season. Females lay their eggs in the nests of smaller birds, leaving the host to raise the young.
