Lagoon Cockle
Cerastoderma glaucum

The lagoon cockle inhabits shallow, often brackish coastal lagoons and estuaries, usually buried just below sandy or muddy sediment. It filter-feeds by drawing water through its siphons and removing microscopic algae and organic particles. Its ridged shell protects the body, while its strong foot can help it rebury itself when exposed.
