Blue Mussel Larva
Mytilus edulis (larva)

Blue mussel larvae drift through coastal plankton after hatching, carried by currents in estuaries and nearshore waters. They use tiny cilia to swim and feed on microscopic algae and other suspended particles. At this veliger stage, a small developing shell already protects the soft body.
