Mediterranean mussel
Mytilus galloprovincialis

Adult Mediterranean mussels form dense attachments on rocky shores, reefs, and other hard coastal surfaces. They feed by filtering phytoplankton and fine organic particles from seawater. Their dark blue-black shell closes tightly to retain moisture and deter many predators during low tide.
