White-faced Meadowhawk
Sympetrum obtrusum
The adult white-faced meadowhawk patrols sunny ponds, wetlands, and nearby open fields. It catches mosquitoes, flies, and other small insects in flight, often returning to a perch between hunting sorties. Mature males develop a pale white face and may defend favored breeding areas from rival dragonflies.
