Brazilian Wandering Spider
Phoneutria nigriventer

Adult Brazilian wandering spiders inhabit leaf litter, fallen logs, banana plants, and buildings across parts of Brazil's Atlantic Forest region. They are nocturnal, active hunters that seize insects and occasionally small vertebrates with powerful venom-bearing fangs. When threatened, an adult raises its front legs and exposes its fangs in a conspicuous defensive posture. Its medically significant venom makes close handling dangerous.
