Red-tailed Bumblebee
Bombus lapidarius

The adult red-tailed bumblebee is common in grasslands, gardens, heathland, and field edges across much of Europe, nesting underground or in sheltered cavities. It visits flowers for nectar and pollen, using its hairy body to carry pollen between blooms. Females can defend themselves with a venomous sting, while males cannot sting. The species is easily recognized by its mostly black body and vivid orange-red tail.
