Red-legged Partridge

Alectoris rufa

Red-legged Partridge

Adults inhabit open Mediterranean farmland, dry grasslands, vineyards, and scrubby slopes. They spend much of their time walking and running while searching for seeds, shoots, leaves, and invertebrates. When threatened, they usually burst into a short, noisy flight before dropping back into cover; their bright red legs are a distinctive field mark.
